November 24 - December 16, 2016

Artlink Canada is proud to present, “Shades of Saturna”, a new selling exhibition celebrating landscape and floral paintings from Canada. “Shades of Saturna” is a solo exhibition, featuring artist Anne Popperwell (Saturna Island, Canada). The exhibition will take place in Vancouver, Canada from November 24th to December 16th, 2016 at Jaydon Art Gallery, 1091 Hornby Street.

Anne Popperwell’s body of work in “Shades of Saturna” includes floral and landscape paintings that offer a glimpse at the colors and light of Saturna Island. Anne paints flowers from her garden during specific moments of bloom, close-up, and larger-than-life; they speak to her joy of nature and remarkable approach to capturing her surrounding natural world. Her flower paintings are reminiscent of Georgia O’Keefe’s early floral work in terms of their multi-dimensional color and abstract viewpoint. These mesmerizing paintings play with space and scale, presenting the viewer with a new way of viewing nature. Anne’s work reveals the life and light of the natural world, transporting the viewer from the gallery to the gardens and shores of her Saturna home.

The artworks showcased in “Shades of Saturna” display the immense impact colors have on creating the mood and depth of a painting. As Anne states: “Colors bring their own dynamic to a painting, creating a space to themselves”. Our color spectrums are broadened and our eyes become engrossed by the luminosity and richness of color hues Anne captures in her paintings. The intense and beautiful color tones harmoniously work together conveying vibrant yet calming scenes.  The paintings remind us to cherish those ephemeral moments in life that are so rare.
